Kodachi no waza: Seigan no koto
Seigan is a waza where shidachi and uchidachi meet and where no hostile intentions are announced until uchidachi grabs the tsuka to draw the sword when the two are within chika ma or have passed each other, when the attack is intended to cut down the opponent from behind. Uchidachi: taitō – nuki – osame – taitō Shidachi: taitō – nukiuchi – osame – taitō Both uchidachi and shidachi start in taitō no kurai with their swords in the saya. Shidachi walks forward and meets uchidachi on the way. When they have passed issoku itto no ma, shidachi senses uchidachi grabbing the tsuka to draw the sword. He advances quickly with okuriashi and draws the short sword in steps with nukiuchi, i.e. pull and slash against the attacker's right hand or forearm. Shidachi advances with his left leg and applies pressure by pressing with his left hand against the back of the sword. As uchidachi retreats to avoid being hit by a blow to the body, shidachi advances with okuriashi, maintaining pressure with the ti
Kodachi no waza: Taishin no koto
Taishin is a technique that aims to avoid an attack and advance towards the uchidachi at the same moment his sword misses its target, regardless of direction. Uchidachi: tombo – kirisage – tombo Shidachi: muniken – katate-mawashiuchi – muniken Shidachi starts in the muniken no kurai with the kodachi in his right hand, while uchidachi is standing in tombo no kurai. Shidachi walks forward and meets uchidachi on the way. As shidachi approaches uchidachi, he experiences an aggressive attitude from him and he stops in the muniken no kurai. When uchidachi cuts kirisage, shidachi steps with his left and right legs diagonally to the left, legs well together and with his right heel raised. At the same time, shidachi performs katate-mawashiuchi and steps diagonally towards uchidachi. Shidachi then steps back to the starting position in the muniken no kurai. Uchidachi quickly steps back three steps and resumes tombo no kurai.
Kodachi no waza: Takumi no koto
Takumi is a technique that illustrates the principle of marobashi, where we, with a mind of complete calm, float along in the face of a threat from multiple opponents. However, it is practiced against one attacker only. Uchidachi: tombo – kirisage – kirisage – tombo Shidachi: muniken – katate-shitekisei – katate-kiritsuke – muniken Shidachi starts in muniken no kurai with the kodachi in his right hand; uchidachi in tombo no kurai. As shidachi approaches uchidachi, he experiences an aggressive attitude from him and he stops in muniken no kurai. When uchideshi signals a strike, shidachi parries and cuts his wrists with katate-shitekisei and then steps diagonally to the left with his right leg, with his left knee on the ground, and cuts katate-kiritsuke. Uchidachi steps back and raises his sword to tombo no kurai, shidachi stands up and steps back to the starting position and assumes muniken no kurai.
Kodachi no waza: Yugomi no koto
Yugomi is a technique that aims to meet an attack from an attacker and then clear a path out of the attack circle while maintaining metsuke (this waza actually prescribes five attackers). Uchidachi: tombo – kirisage – junsha – tombo Shidachi: muniken – kiritsuke – junsha – muniken Shidachi starts in muniken no kurai with the kodachi in his right hand, uchidachi in tombo no kurai. As shidachi approaches uchidachi, he experiences an aggressive attitude and stops in the muniken position. Shidachi moves his left leg forward to the right and grabs the tsuka with both hands, his mind in marobashi. When uchidachi cuts kirisage from tombo no kurai, shidachi steps diagonally to the right with his left leg and cuts kiritsuketowards his body. He then steps forward one step with his right leg, rotates his body to the left and holds the short sword in junsha no kurai and watches more imaginary attackers with metsuke. Shidachi then steps back to the starting position in muniken no kurai. Uchidachi
Kodachi no waza: Mushuken no koto
You push through the opponent's defensive area and take the right distance for the next attack. Mushuken practices finding the right distance to the opponent and being able to react to changing distances during combat. It is an example where offensive action, sen-no-sen, is combined with matsukoto. The technique is the same as used in mutodori. Uchidachi: tombo – kirisage – tombo Shidachi: muniken – shishi – haneuchi – tsuttachi – tsukiage – shishi – muniken Shidachi stands in muniken no kurai and uchidachi in tombo no kurai. When shidachi reaches issoku itto no ma, he steps resolutely close to uchidachi (chika ma) and lowers his center of gravity to shishi no mai with the tip of his sword aimed at his throat. Uchidachi is forced to retreat and slashes kirisage. Shidachi meets the slash with haneuchi, moves his left leg forward next to his right with the sword in tsuttachi no kurai and thrusts tsukiage at his throat. When uchidachi retreats again, shidachi advances with his right foot
Kodachi no waza: Hachiten no koto
Hachiten combines a situation where one successfully switches from go-no-sen to sen-no-sen and is practiced in wazaagainst one attacker, but can be used to break through the line of multiple opponents. It is an example of how to save energy by letting the attacker(s) move. Uchidachi: tombo – kirisage – tombo – kirisage – tombo Shidachi: muniken – toriikuzushi – hitoemi – gyaku-toriikuzushi – kiritsuke – toriikuzushi – muniken Shidachi stands in muniken no kurai; uchidachi stands in tombo no kurai. Shidachi walks towards uchidachi; when he is three steps from issoku itto no ma he steps back with his right leg and assumes toriikuzushi no kurai. When uchidachislashes kirisage, shidachi steps back with his left leg next to his right, straightens his body to avoid the slash and thrusts hitoemi to the throat, if necessary with a step diagonally forward with his right leg. When uchidachi retreats and assumes tombo no kurai again, shidachi steps back with his left leg and assumes gyaku-toriik
